Students will choose from a list of artists a master artist, (an artist who made work pre-1980s, and most probably not living), and a contemporary artist, (an artist who is living and has made work post 1980s to the present). From there they will do research on their two artists and create two posters that focus on a single piece of artwork from that artist and recreate it with a medium of their choice. They can use acrylic paint, watercolor, pencil, oil pastels, colored pencils, or markers. Eight small, one-sentence facts will be included around the artwork, as well as a credit line listed beneath the artwork. 3-4 other works of art can be printed in color and included on the poster, with their titles listed below. Finally, a printed picture of the artist himself/herself must be included somewhere on the poster.
Students used value to draw an image of an object they wanted to create in clay. They started by drawing the shape, then added in shading, then creating the details. Using texture, they began to create them out of clay. Watch for their sculptures in the weeks to come!
